History The lykos are said to have come from the Great North, a harshly cold region beyond a natural barrier of snowy tundra and mountains nearly impossible to navigate. Very little is known about this place other than its general location and the danger involved in trying to find it. Originally a very spiritual group, the lykos relied on deep traditions and magic of their North to protect them. The source of this power of theirs has been claimed to stem from many mysterious things. It is said that when the wars began, many lykos began to question and distrust the magic of their kind; fear of the destruction the humans were bringing closer to their home turned to anger and panic, and so they fled. Some lykos traveled to the west, to the land of mountains and also one of the closer places to their former home in the north. Some traveled eastward or southward into the woods. Hundreds of lykos began to leave their beloved Great North, in search of freedom from the claws of war. They traveled in great packs, in every direction. Many died within the first couple of weeks of their journey, too weak and drained from some unknown force that slowly wore at their spirit. It seemed only the strongest survived, and even after they reached their destinations, the going was hard. Their journey, of course, brought them closer to humans; avoiding them was impossible. So the lykos used their magic in order to blend in with the humans, hiding with them instead of from them. Out of fear of these strange beasts, the humans began to hunt the lykos. Many more were killed because of this fear, but the few that remained discovered a way to use their power to project an illusion of sorts, to blend into the environment now overtaken by these humans. Many years passed, and the lykos of each region grew accustomed to their surroundings, adapting as any animal would -- magical or not --to suit their habitat. It is here where fictional bedtime stories become fact. Despite all the obstacles the lykos faced, they lived on, hidden under a veil of magic to hide their true nature. Each culture is different in its own way, yet they all share the same magical blood of the legendary lykos creatures, the mystic wolves of the Great North. | |
